A Way of Life
What is The Porsuelo Experience?
It is the result of a hitherto unknown work of a grassroots couple from Camp Philips in Bukidnon, Philippines. Witnessing failures in propagating NFP among co-workers in Del Monte in the 1960s, Eli and Feling Porsuelo used the modern Basal Body Temperature (BBT) and the Mucus Methods on themselves. They were able to develop and document a simplified set of rules that is now called the Porsuelo Experience.
Their pioneering work resulted in an NFP method that is tested, easy to learn, and easy to use. Because of this, they were able to touch more than four thousand couples in Bukidnon and other nearby provinces. The Vatican got to know about the Porsuelo’s “home-grown” NFP technology and invited Eli and Feling Porsuelo to explain the technology they had developed. The Porsuelos were cross-examined by an international panel of doctors in several sessions, a test which they passed with flying colors. The Pope later referred to Feling as a ‘scientist’.
Eventually, the Vatican appointed them to the Pontifical Council of the Family to represent the Philippines, a position they held for ten years, during which time the Church got valuable inputs towards understanding the true nature of NFP and how it advances Humanae Vitae values that strengthen marriage. They were then the only Filipino couple in the Pontifical Council for Family and Life. ●
